FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOMA Movement Studio Launches: Reform Your Focus – A Screentime Detox Challenge

Unionville, CT –  March 18, 2025 – SOMA Movement Studio is excited to introduce Reform Your Focus, an initiative designed to help participants reset their minds and bodies by reducing digital overstimulation and improving the effectiveness of their Pilates practice. This April, the challenge is simple yet transformative: Put Down Your Phone.

Excessive screen time contributes to stress, anxiety, and decreased focus. With US adults averaging over seven hours of screen time daily, many also experience musculoskeletal issues and posture disturbances. Joseph Pilates, creator of the Contrology method—now known as Pilates—wrote, "Civilization impairs physical fitness" in his 1945 book, Return to Life. His insight is more relevant than ever as modern reliance on screens impacts both physical and mental well-being.

Mary Badon, MD, founder of SOMA Movement Studio, has observed a shift in client needs. "When I first opened the studio ten years ago, most people came for strength and injury prevention. Now, more and more, the focus has shifted to stress relief and correcting posture disturbances like 'tech neck.' Even a small reduction in screen time can reduce discomfort and make Pilates practice more effective."

The Reform Your Focus Challenge encourages participants to take intentional breaks from screens to improve mental clarity, enhance mindfulness, and reconnect with real-world experiences. SOMA Movement Studio is providing guided strategies, in-studio and text message support, and community accountability to help individuals navigate this digital detox with ease. The challenge voluntary and completely confidential.

  • March 25 - 31: Submit a screenshot of your current screen time to Cheryl, the SOMA Admin (860-470-6683).

Throughout April, SOMA Movement Studio will offer participants screen-free movement classes (including smart watches) and accountability check-ins to support participants. Disconnecting during Pilates sessions fosters focus and encourages a holistic approach to digital well-being.

“Putting down your phone is a small yet powerful step toward reclaiming your mental and physical health,” says Mary Badon, MD, founder of SOMA Movement Studio. “At SOMA, we believe movement is a pathway to mindfulness, and this challenge encourages a deeper connection between state of mind and experience of body.”

SOMA Movement Studio invites the community to take the first step in breaking free from digital distractions. Sign up for Reform Your Focus today and experience the benefits of a more present, mindful, and balanced life.
